These poems exist parallel to an ongoing body of visual and land-based work, written through an immediate, responsive process that engages directly with thought, sensation, memory, and environment as they arise. Rooted in careful observation and introspection, the poems reflect lived experience, interpersonal relationships, and a close relationship with the natural world. Written by hand, digitally, and often outdoors, they emerge through moments of stillness, curiosity, and reflection, exploring the intersections of emotional and ecological landscapes. Together, these works invite readers to slow down, observe closely, and linger within the subtle rhythms and fleeting experiences of everyday life.
ENERGY by Sara Pruiksma

My energy is gone
and so am I
I feel the pavement
under my feet
and I know
I’m still alive

To feel so full
and yet so
cavernously
empty
It aches
this abyss
within
my body
THE WINTER GARDEN by Sara Pruiksma
12.5.2025
Winter’s slumber, harsh and cold
bestills the chaos to a gentle fold
as I pause, I take a breadth
to soak in the glory of winter’s rest
Alive with dried and pithy stems
holding ‘little things’ through Winters’ end
brown-eyed Susan dried up for the year
atop a crooked spindle, sits a dark perfect sphere
Upon each weathered cane, up high in a cluster
finches descend with all they can muster
As they crumble, seeds fall below
becoming seedlings in time, first nestled in snow
The roots, they’ve frozen, safe and sound
Resting deeply, underground
